Breathe Easy: Allergy-Friendly Sheets

Spring brings longer days, blossoming gardens, and for many a tickle in the throat and a constant supply of tissues. As the air fills with pollen and the humidity starts to climb, your bedroom can quickly become a hotspot for allergens like dust mites and mould. And your sheets? They’re often where it all settles in.

If you’re waking up sniffly, congested, or not quite rested, it might be time to rethink what you’re sleeping in.

What does my bedding have to do with my allergies?

More than you might think. While we tend to blame the outdoors for allergy symptoms, a lot of allergens make themselves comfortable inside - especially in the bedroom. Bedding can trap pollen, dust mites, pet dander, and other irritants, particularly during spring when windows are open and humidity rises.

Because we spend around a third of our lives in bed, creating a clean, breathable sleep space is one of the simplest ways to find some relief and rest.

What are the best sheet materials for people with allergies?

Not all fibres are created equal. When it comes to bedding for allergy sufferers, natural, breathable, and easy-to-wash materials make all the difference.

  • Tightly Woven Cotton

Our Fresh Cotton Percale is a tightly woven cotton that acts as a physical barrier, making it harder for dust mites to settle in. It’s cool, crisp, and ideal for warmer nights - especially during allergy season.

Naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, linen helps prevent the damp environments dust mites love. It’s also exceptionally durable, so it can be washed frequently without wearing out - a major plus when you need to clean your sheets often.

What features should I look for to reduce allergy symptoms?

Choosing the right material is just the start. These features help turn your bed into a true sanctuary, not a sneeze trap.

  • Hypoallergenic & Dust-Mite Resistant

Look for products labelled as hypoallergenic or dust-mite resistant. While no sheet is entirely immune, these are designed to reduce the chance of allergic reactions and block dust mite build-up.

  • Easy to Wash - and Often

Allergy-friendly bedding needs to be washed regularly and not all fabrics can keep up. All our sheets are designed with durability in mind, no matter which fabric you prefer. They’re made to handle frequent hot washes (60°C and above) without compromising on softness, shape, or comfort.

  • Breathable Fabrics Matter

Materials that breathe well help reduce moisture, making your bed less inviting to allergens like dust mites. All of our bedding is made from natural fibres and every product is Oeko-Tex certified, so you can rest easy knowing it’s safe for skin and free from harmful chemicals.

Some fabrics feel a little airier than others. Pure Linen is light and moisture-wicking, perfect for warmer nights. Cotton Jersey and Soft Washed Cotton bring softness with breathability - ideal if you want that easy, lived-in feel.

How should I care for my bedding to reduce allergens?

1. Wash Weekly

Sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers should be washed at least once a week - more often if symptoms are severe.

2. Use Hot Water

Set your machine to at least 60°C (140°F) to kill off dust mites and bacteria.

3. Tumble Dry on High

A hot dryer cycle helps sanitise your bedding even further. Bonus: it makes sheets extra soft.

4. Don’t Forget the Duvet

Wash your duvet and pillows (or use protective covers) every few weeks - they collect allergens too.

What else can help?

Think beyond the sheets. Layering in protective bedding creates extra barriers between you and what you’re reacting to:

Pillow Protectors
Zippered, breathable covers that go under your pillowcases to prevent allergen build-up.

Mattress Protectors
Essential if your mattress is more than a few years old. Ours are breathable, washable, and act as a clean slate beneath your layers.

Can colour make a difference in how fresh your space feels?

Not technically - but psychologically? Absolutely. Crisp white, clean neutrals, and soft spring tones help a space feel lighter and cleaner, even if it’s just had its weekly wash.
