From Liberty with love

"Liberty is the chosen resort of the artistic shopper," pronounced wit, and regular client, Oscar Wilde.

Arthur Liberty’s vision for his store was an emporium that offered stylish and hand-made decorative items and fabrics from around the world, and objects from the leading designers of the day. Liberty has always had a point of view; Arthur Liberty once said, “I was determined not to follow existing fashions but create new ones.”

A Legacy 150 Years in the Making

150 years ago, the adventurous and disruptive spirit of Arthur Lasenby Liberty laid plans for a London emporium laden with beautiful wares sourced from across the globe. In 1875, he named Regent Street his home where he built the iconic Liberty store. With a history hidden amongst six floors of cutting-edge design, to this day, Liberty remains a voyage of discovery.

By the 1890s, Liberty had become a go-to for designers shaping the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. In fact, the store’s influence was so strong that in Italy, Art Nouveau became known as Stile Liberty or Liberty Style. Today, Liberty's Tudor-style building just off London’s Regent Street is as much a landmark as the designs it houses. Step through the Flower Shop entrance, and you’re met with carved timber interiors, grand fireplaces, and winding staircases - a shopping experience like no other.

Made with Liberty Fabric

Used as a byword for the very best of textiles and design, Liberty is famed for its original curation, cultural collaborations, and celebration of craftsmanship. Located in the heart of London, the Liberty Design Studio is occupied by highly skilled artists who conceptualise, rework, and hand-draw hundreds of artworks under the Liberty Fabrics name.

World-renowned for its historic 60,000-strong design archive, Liberty’s in-house team of archivists work tirelessly to collate the latest artworks whilst cataloguing its vast wealth of 19th and 20th century designs. Printing takes place at the Liberty mill in northern Italy, which uses both innovative digital technology and age-old techniques.

From signature, obsessively fine-tuned Tana Lawn™ cotton and luxurious silk to lightweight linen and sustainable bases, Liberty fabrics are brilliant canvases for bespoke creations of all kinds, offering brands and garments an authority on quality and style.

Since 1875, Liberty has paved the way for a movement dedicated to discovery, animated by arts, culture, and iconic product design. In the spirit of its founder, Arthur Lasenby Liberty, Liberty remains unapologetically eccentric and committed to bringing good design to all.

From London to Your Bedroom

If Liberty is a world-renowned name today, it’s largely thanks to its fabrics. From the beginning, its textile department has been the heart of the brand, offering luxurious materials sourced globally. Over time, Liberty became best known for its own original designs - prints that have been reimagined and refined for more than a century.

Greg, the founder of George Street Linen, has admired Liberty fabrics his whole career. So when the opportunity arose to partner with them, it wasn’t just an easy decision - it was a dream project. We were given access to Liberty’s extensive archives to select the prints we’d bring to life as custom pillowcases and sheets.

We started with Rachel, Elysian Day, Ciara, and Thorpe, choosing the base fabrics before the final designs were printed in a specialist facility near Milan - one of the few places capable of capturing Liberty’s intricate detail on wide-width (300cm) fabric. Since then, we’ve expanded the collection to include Tresco, Wild Flowers, and Adelphi Voyage.

For those who love to wrap themselves in Liberty beyond the bed, we also offer a range of effortlessly chic robes. We started with Emma and Betsy Heirloom, and now the lineup includes Adelphi Voyage, Betsy, Emma, Heirloom, Tresco, and Wild Flowers.

Liberty has always been about creating something timeless, and we’re proud to be part of that story. And we’re not stopping here - watch this space for what’s next.
